Things to do in Happy Valley

Looking for some local attractions or restaurants to round out your Conference in Happy Valley?  This blogger recommends grabbing a bite at the Corner Room; shopping at the Artisan Connection for unique works by local, regional and national artists; or take in the photography of Peter Henry Emerson in a special exhibition at the PSU Palmer Museum of Art.  For more information on these and other attractions in Happy Valley, check out http://www.downtownstatecollege.com/index.html.

Moderators still needed

Librarians,
Are you going to the Pennsylvania School Librarians annual conference April 30-May 2 in State College?   Are you a PSLA member? If so you are needed to moderate a mini-session at conference.  It’s not hard.  You represent your organization, greet the mini-session attendees, introduce the speaker if needed, and are sure attendees sign in and get their cards stamped for Act 48 credit.

Moderators are still needed for the following sessions:
P2, P3, P7, P8
W3,
A1/B1, A4, A12, A13,
B4, B6, B13, B14
C1/D1, C9, C10, C11, C12, C13
D7, D8, D9, D12

You can read descriptions of the sessions online @http://www.psla.org/conferences/Conference2009/confdescripREV.pdf

Please reply to me at pslamoderators@yahoo.com or mtatro@phila.k12.pa.us with the session(s) you are willing to moderate and your contact information.

Please don’t forget to include your school district or affiliation as it gets printed in the conference program.  Some people like to show it to their administrator.  Moderators are able to sign up for 4 sessions if they want.  More Act 48 credit if you need it.

If you can help, please reply soonest as the deadline is approaching.
Thanks,
Margaret Tatro

April 30th Session for CFF Coaches and Librarians

There has been a little confusion about CFF, PSLA, and Dr. Renee Hobbs of Temple University. Dr. Hobbs is presenting practical information from the new publication Code of Best Practices in Fair Use for Media Literacy Education. On April 30, she will be presenting in the morning to CFF coaches and their librarians. She is also presenting the same afternoon for the PSLA conference.

If you will be at Penn State with your CFF coach, be sure to take in the morning session. If your coach has not said anything about it, ask! Registration for this session will be through the PaTTAN web site. I am not sure if CFF librarians can attend without their coach. From the wording it sounds like the coaches need to bring their librarians. If you are not involved in CFF, you can sign up for the PSLA session, P6 Finally An End To Copyright Confusion. This registration is going on now. You should have printed materials for registering if you are a member, and if not, the booklet and forms are on the PSLA web site at www.psla.org. Either way, you will be in for an informative session on a very timely and complicated topic that is changing as we explore new media.

For questions about the CFF session, contact your coach or Holly Jobe.

For questions about the PSLA conference, post them here or contact Doug Francis at francisd@lasd.k12.pa.us.
